Stage set for filing of nominations

As filing of nominations for the Parliament elections is slated to begin on Tuesday, the election authorities in central region are setting the stage for receiving nominations.

Tiruchi Collector S. Sivarasu, who is also the Returning Officer of Tiruchi parliamentary constituency, said the constituency was comprised of Tiruchi West, Tiruchi East, Thiruverumbur, Kandarvakottai and Pudukottai Assembly segments. Officials had been designated for receiving the nominations. Candidates could file nomination papers before him at the Collector office between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. They could also file papers before the Assistant Returning Officer in Tiruchi.

Mr. Sivarasu said the last date for filing of nominations would be March 26, Tuesday. Scrutiny of nominations would take place the next day and March 29 would the last day of withdrawing nominations.

He said elaborate arrangements had been made at his office to ensure strict implementation of model code of conduct while filing nominations. Political parties and candidates had been asked to follow the model code of conduct. Tight security would be in place, Mr. Sivarasu said.

Karur
Collector T. Anbalagan on Saturday held an all party meeting ahead of start of filing of nominations in Karur. Representatives of AIADMK, DMK, Congress and other parties participated.

Mr. Anbalagan said only three vehicles of candidates would be allowed within a 100-metre radius of Returning Officer at the Collector’s office. Four persons could accompany the candidates while filing nominations. Candidates could file nominations from March 19 to 26 except on holidays. Candidates should file Form-26 (affidavit) along with nomination papers. All columns should be filled up. The investments made in foreign countries should also be mentioned in Form 26.
