High demand for office space



Trichy: Known for its environment conducive to open satellite offices and the availability of human resources, the city continues to be a favourite destination for outsourcing firms. With the office space in Elcot IT park full, there is a heavy demand among BPOs and KPOs to take office space on rent in the city.

According to A Manoj Prabahar, CEO of Trichy Coworks, a startup that provides furnished office space for startups and ITeS firms, the demand for office space in the city has skyrocketed in the past one year. Entrepreneurs opined that Trichy being tagged as the cleanest and most liveable city in the state and a recent recognition from UK-based economic watchdog Oxford Economics that Trichy is the eighth fastest growing city in the world have altogether put the city in the good books of investors. "Already heavy competition persists among BPOs to occupy space in Elcot IT park phase II. If the demand continues, private tech parks may also pitch in to seize the opportunity," Manoj Prabahar told TOI.

Also, as the existing ITeS firms are looking forward to expand their facility, the demand for more office space in commercial areas such as Thillai Nagar and Cantonment has surged since past six months. The lack of available office space has forced several IT firms to take houses on rent in Cantonment locality to expand their operations.


"Since office space in the city is on high-demand, work on establishing phase II in the SEZ should be expedited. We will also demand additional bus services and better safety arrangements for employees working in the IT park at Navalpattu," said N Kanagasabapathy, president of Trichy District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA). Apart from Cantonment, there is much demand for office space in Thillai Nagar and Karur Bypass Road.
