Trichy: Government exhibition commenced at a private ground in Pattabiraman salai in the city on Thursday evening for disseminating information on schemes besides serving as a temporary entertainment spot for the residents.

Tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan and minister for backward classes and minority welfare S Valarmathi inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of district collector K Rajamani, politicians and officials. The new location for the exhibition has been chosen by the district administration and information and public relation department. The exhibition, which has been put up on a 3-acre land, will have 30 stalls of government departments like revenue, highways, corporation, tourism, agriculture, health, police and government undertakings such as Aavin. Drinking water has been made available with the help of four plastic tanks while toilet facilities have been set up separately for ladies and gents inside the venue.

Facilities like giant wheel for entertainment have also been set up at the venue. However, reaching the new venue could prove to be difficult for the visitors as they have to go either on their own vehicle or walk from a nearby bus stop opposite Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital or Thennur. The entrance fees for adults will be Rs 15 and for children Rs 10. For group visits from educational institutions, the entrance ticket will cost Rs 5 each. Vehicle parking facility has been set up outside the entrance.

The exhibition is being organized for the second time in a year. A 45-day exhibition was organized on a disputed land along Uyyakondan canal on Anna Nagar – Kuzhumikarari road from January 8 this year. The ministers disbursed welfare measures worth Rs 2.93 crore to 650 beneficiaries at Thursday’s function.
