Civic body to notify litter-free streets

In an attempt to encourage residents to keep their surroundings and streets clean, the Tiruchi Corporation has planned to notify streets which are litter-free.

On Saturday, Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran unveiled a signboard notifying the Krishnamoorthy Nagar I Street in ward 41 in K. Abishekapuram in the city ‘litter-free.’

“The move is aimed at promoting a sense of responsibility and also raising awareness among residents on keeping their surroundings clean. We are planning to declare more streets litter-free wherever residents ensure safe and proper disposal of solid waste,” Mr. Ravichandran said.

The Corporation Commissioner also participated in a mass cleaning campaign in the residential locality.

Later in the day, Vellamandi N. Natarajan, Tourism Minister, and S. Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, declared open two public parks in the city.

They declared open a park established at a cost of Rs. 65.21 lakh at Ananda Avenue in ward 14 in Ariyamangalam zone and another established at a cost of Rs. 35.77 lakh at AIBEA Nagar in ward 6 in Srirangam zone. P. Kumar, MP, was also present.
