Tiruchi railway division has earned more

Gauge conversion work on the Tiruvarur – Pattukottai section is likely to be completed this fiscal, P.Uday Kumar Reddy, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, said here on Wednesday.

“The track between Pattukottai and Karaikudi has been laid and the work between Tiruvarur and Pattukottai is in progress and is likely to be completed during the current financial year,” he said while speaking after unfurling the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations at the railway grounds at Kallukuzhi. The 76-km meter gauge line on the section was closed in October 2012 for gauge conversion.

Mr.Reddy, who read out the message of General Manager, Southern Railway, highlighted the achievements of Tiruchi Division during the current financial year till July. The division has carried 15 lakh more passengers and earned Rs. 10.61 crore so far this year. In the freight sector, it has registered 31.47% higher earning by loading 7,99,347 tonnes of goods. It has recorded substantial increase in loading coal, foodgrain and fertilizers.

Regarding passenger amenities, he said the Train Captain service has been extended to all trains in the division.
