The work on the Road over Bridge (RoB) across the railway tracks in Periyar Nagar, Thiruvanaikoil is likely to complete in a month. After completing the work on the approach roads on the ends close to the Trichy and Chennai bypass sides, one of the long pending infrastructure projects of the city will be open for vehicular movement from August this year.

The State government in February 2011 gave in-principal approval for establishing the four-lane RoB at Periyar Nagar to replace the narrow two-lane bridge. After a prolonged delay, a sum of Rs 47.30 crore was sanctioned for the project. But construction work was not initiated till 2016 due to the assembly elections. Though in July 2016, dismantling of the old bridge was taken up, the monsoon rains consistently delayed the work. "We can complete the pending approach roads of the RoB by next month. Other works were completed," an official with the highways department said.

The four-lane bridge is equipped with two sections of carriage ways each housing a couple of lanes to enable free movement of vehicles. Once the facility was opened for traffic, the district administration said, close to 2.10 lakh people in Srirangam and Thiruvanaikoil will benefits and people of Lalgudi and Pullmbadi can evade frequent traffic congestion.
