While the Science Park, which is the city's first science park for children, was opened at Anna Nagar in Thennur, the other park was inaugurated at Yogalakshmi Nagar in Srirangam.

Minister for Tourism Vellamandi N. Natarajan and Minister for Backward Class and Minority Welfare S. Valarmathi inaugurated the park at Yogalakshmi Nagar in the presence of Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran.

Established at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore, the science park has an exclusive science complex on about 2,100 sq.ft. to provide scientific exposure to children and students. The project, executed under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, has come on 2.62 acres of Corporation ground abutting Sivaprakasam Salai in Anna Nagar. As many as 20 scientific equipment have been installed. To raise the children’s curiosity about animals and reptiles, models of dinosaurs and other animals have been set up.

Similarly, a lawn has been created in an area of about 9,500 sq. ft. thereby creating a green ambiance.

An amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 500 persons, a musical dancing fountain, a rock fountain and a water fountain are among the facilities created in the park.

Mr. Ravichandran said that more than 500 spectators visited the science park on the first day. “Since it is located at the centre of the city, it is expected to receive excellent patronage,” he said. No entry fee would be collected.

The park at Yogalakshmi Nagar had been established at a cost of Rs. 57 lakh.
