Educational institutions hail increase in connectivity

Educational institutions of high standing in the region are looking forward to the proposed increase in connectivity to domestic destinations for further improving their profile.

From June 1, there will be more flights to Chennai at convenient timings and also to Kochi and Bengaluru from the June-end. Already, connectivity has been provided to Mumbai and Delhi. In particular, the improved flight connectivity will be of vital utility to students and faculties belonging to various States in institutions of national importance such as Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Central University of Tamil Nadu, and Indian Institute of Information Technology, as also a host of other insitutions known nation-wide.

"There are students from 23 States at CUTN. All are now under compulsion to travel by air to Chennai and from there by train to Tiruvarur. The improved connectivity will help them a lot," CUTN Vice-Chancellor A.P. Dash said, adding that the connectivity to other domestic destinations need to be increased further.

The Director of Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchi, Bhimaraya Metri said the status of Tiruchi was now on par with any other metro city in terms of air connectivity, which, he felt, was the key for the all-round growth of the region.

With very important pilgrim centres around, Tiruchi airport will soon be patronised in a big way by visitors from North Indian States, he said.

The domestic connectivity has added thrust to the joint move by the IIM-Tiruchi and Confederation of Indian Industry to position the city as a hub for innovation as it was strategically located at the Centre of the State, Prof. Metri said.

It will henceforth be easy for the institutions to invite experts from all parts of the country. It will be easy for experts to visit Tiruchi and return on the same day. Further, top-notch companies will be desirous of visiting institutions and conducting placements. Most importantly, the improved domestic connectivity will lead to better industry-institution collaboration, Prof. Metri said.

There are a minimum of two courses that are handled by industry experts. Learning of the application part of theoretical learning will be strengthened with improved air connectivity, he said.
