Ernakulam to Tiruchi express train proposed
The district may soon get a train to Velankanni housing Our Lady of Good Health Basilica, if the Southern Railways positively considers the plea from Kollam MP Premachandran.
In a memorandum submitted to the Southern Railways recently, Mr. Premachandran had appealed to the officials to operate an express train to connect Ernakulam and Tiruchi. Since the Southern Railways has apparently considered the MP’s plea positively, he has appealed to extend this train up to Velankanni, as thousands of Christians from Kerala visit the holy place throughout the year.
“I hope that the proposed Ernakulam – Tiruchi Express train is likely to be extended up to Velankanni since the officials have agreed to it. This train will be operated from Ernakulam to Velankanni via Kollam, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Madurai,” Mr. Premachandran informed during an informal chat with the reporters at Shencottai railway station on Thursday afternoon. As the districts of Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli have considerable Christian population, patronage for this train is likely to be overwhelming throughout the year. He also said he had appealed to the officials to extend the Kollam – Edaman passenger train up to Tenkasi.
“We’ve appealed to connect a vistadome (see-through glass coach) for the Tambaram – Kollam Express as it will give the passengers an exhilarating experience even as they cross the picturesque Shencottai – Kollam ghat section. Since it will promote tourism in this region, we’ve made this appeal,” Mr. Premachandran said.
