Army recruitment rally begins
An army recruitment rally began at the district sports stadium here on Tuesday with candidates from central and southern districts taking part.
On day one, over 1,500 candidates took part in the recruitment process and they were split into batches for screening. The recruitment is for the post of soldier in the categories of technical, technical (ammunition and aviation), nursing assistant, general duty, clerk/storekeeper technical and tradesman.
As part of the recruitment process, physical measurements of every candidate was taken, and a 1.6-km running contest was also conducted. Academic testimonials of the candidates were verified by an army team. Physical efficiency test, including pull ups and long jump, was conducted. Eligible candidates would be subjected to medical examination on Wednesday.
Candidates from 15 districts, including Perambalur, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar, took part in the rally.
The district administration has put in place basic amenities including provision of drinking water and toilet facilities at the stadium.
Security personnel and firefighters have been deployed at the stadium.
The rally will go on up to April 24 with over 18,000 candidates expected to participate.
