Close on the heels of landscaping project being implemented by the Tiruchi Corporation in association with the Tiruchi chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI), the Tiruchi Corporation plans to involve the city's business houses, voluntary organisations and individuals to carry out beautification projects in the city.

Launching the landscaping project at Anna Nagar on Saturday, Commissioner-cum-Special Officer N. Ravichandran told The Hindu that the project had been implemented from Anna Nagar link road to Ukkiramakaliamman Temple. Landscaping has been carried out on 16,800 square feet for a length of 1,300 feet. Besides planting of flowering plants, limited height tree plants had been planted on the central medial. Ground cover plants had also been planted. The plants were drought tolerant varieties. More than 17,000 plants have been planted and CREDAI, which had designed the project, would maintain the area.

Mr. Ravichandran added that it would make the entire median space lush green and attractive. It would also add value to the beautification initiatives of the Corporation.

Calling upon the citizens to take a cue from the landscaping project, he said it had identified about 300 citizens of Tiruchi, who could join hands with the civic body to carry out beautification projects. The list includes successful and popular businessmen, traders, private and public entities, influential citizens, citizen forums, voluntary organisations, industrial houses and others. They would be called for a meeting soon to showcase the avenues of beautification project in different parts of the city. Industrial houses could come forward to take up projects under the Corporate Social Responsibility.

P. Ravichandran, president, CREDAI, Tiruchi, said that the landscaping project had been executed at an estimate of Rs. 5 lakh. The plants would be watered through drip irrigation system. All out efforts would be taken to make the project site as a model initiative and CREDAI would maintain the project for three years.
