This has been done consequent to a direction from the Railway Board.

Tiruchi is the first railway division in the Southern Railway Zone to issue official SIM cards to the ticket checking staff for effective and quicker communication.

Passengers on board reserved coaches could contact the ticket checking staff with the help of their mobile numbers printed on the reservation charts to seek assistance or in case of any emergency, said a senior railway official.

The CUG SIM cards have been provided as the ticket checkers were the front line staff and the first one to be contacted on board the trains by passengers in case of any problem or unforeseen situation such as fire, theft or accident, said the official.

In addition to their core activity, the ticket checking staff were also supposed to remain vigilant in respect of child trafficking in trains; check for dangerous / prohibited and inflammable articles and remove them at the next stoppage.

The official said the CUG facility has been provided to the ticket checking staff keeping in view their diverse duties assigned to them.

The divisional authorities have given a set of instructions to the ticket checking staff making it clear that the CUG SIM was a railway property which required to be kept in safe custody by the individual staff for its bonafide's use.

The ticket checking staff have also been asked not to exchange the CUG SIM issued to them with another staff.

The CUG facility has been provided with a monthly ceiling ofRs. 300 per month. Usage charges over and above the ceiling would be recovered from the individual's salary, said the official.
