Soon, FB page to post grievances




In an attempt to make use of the growing number of users of social media, the Tiruchi City Corporation plans to launch a separate Facebook page and a twitter handle to receive grievances of citizens on civic issues.

According to a survey, Tiruchi city is one among the top cities in the State in using Facebook (FB) and twitter. Out of about 11 lakh population in the city, about 1.5 lakh citizens are reported to be visiting Facebook pages and using twitter on weekends and holidays. Most of them are youngsters.

Since the number of FB and twitter users is remarkable considering the population in Tiruchi, the civic body has recently opened a FB page and twitter handle to make use of them to popularise its campaign, programmes and actions. The post of the Tiruchi Corporation on a recent report of The Hindu on refurbished open gym cum leisure park at Cantonment received over 300 views within a few hours.

Consequent to this, Tiruchi Corporation has decided to launch a separate FB page and twitter handle for the citizens to post their grievances on garbage cleaning, overflowing of drain water, water supply, solid waste collection and others.

To devise a plan of action, Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran will hold a meeting with a group of technocrats. He told The Hindu that the number of persons following the Corporation's FB page and twitter handle was on the rise. Hence, it had been decided to launch a social media grievance portal soon. The citizens could post complaints with photos, videos and related details. The complaints would be forwarded to the department concerned for action.

A training programme would be organised for the heads of various departments and key officials. A team would be formed to monitor the pages.
