Under the aegis of Catalyst, a social initiative of Pragyan, the technology festival of National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi, students reached out to the Government Higher Secondary School, Thuvakudi, to provide them insights into science learning beyond text books, recently.

The student team of NIT-T performed eleven experiments covering concepts from Physics and Chemistry for the benefit of learners in classes VI, VII and VIII.

The experiments, Pragyan organisers said, were based on properties of acids and bases, the laws of gravity and few elementary chemical reactions. The lectures were quite interactive, filling the rooms with energy and an eagerness to learn. The school students responded with enthusiasm as the interactions were in Tamil.

The NIT-T team, introduced to the students by the teachers, also oriented the students on leadership qualities. The presentation threw light on the characteristics expected of a leader, and the children were engaged in deliberations. They responded well when asked to name the people who inspired them and the qualities they admired in their role models.

The NIT-T team wound up the visit to the government school with a short talk about JEE for students of class IX, and distribution of Catalyst pamphlets to the children.
