Final report on delimitation of wards within a week: SEC

State Election Commissioner M. Malik Feroze Khan has asked the Collectors of delta districts to take action on complaints and representations pertaining to delimitation of local bodies.

He was presiding over a meeting of district collectors and senior officials of Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts here on Monday.

Representatives of political parties, public forums and aspiring candidates also participated and presented complaints and suggestions to the officials.

Besides listening to their grievances and complaints, the State Election Commissioner also reviewed the action taken against complaints received by the local bodies up to January 12.

655 representations

Mr. Khan said officials had received 655 representations from various political parties and public forums in Tiruchi district. Action had been taken on 269 representations and the Commission had received recommendations from the local bodies. Officials had been asked to scrutinise the remaining 386 representations.

The process should be completed within a week and the final report submitted to the Commission within the time, he added.

As far as Tiruchi Corporation was concerned, the State Election Commissioner said action had already been taken on complaints received from two out of 65 wards.

No representation was received from three municipalities in the district. Action was being taken on representations from Lalgudi and Mannachanallur town panchayats.

Districts

Mr. Khan said several representations were received from Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts. The Collectors were asked to scrutinise all representations within a week.

Santha (Perambalur) participated in the meeting.
