The plant to be established under the ITC Mangaldeep Green Temple initiative, would meet part of the fuel requirement of the kitchen of the annadhana koodam of the temple, according to C. Balasubramanian, honorary president, District Exnora, which is implementing the project. Hundreds of people partake the food served at the temple under the annadhanam scheme of the State government.

Cow dung from the temple’s goshala would be the raw material for the biogas plant.

The unit would be set up adjacent to the kitchen of the annadhana koodam. The bhoomi puja for the plant was performed on Monday and the project is expected to be ready for commissioning in about a month’s time.

A vermi-compost unit would also be set up to process flower and other organic waste generated at the temple. Bio-manure generated from the unit, would be used at the temple nandhavanam, Mr. Balasubramanian said.
