Operation of a new train from Tiruchi to Bengaluru sought

Operation of a day-time express train to Bengaluru from Tiruchi and a slew of other demands were put forth by railway users at the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting held here on Thursday.

This was the first meeting of the DRUCC of Tiruchi Division for the period October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2019 presided over by the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi P. Uday Kumar Reddy.

Ten members representing passenger associations, consumer organisations, chamber of commerce, nominees of MPs, representative of differently – abled association and government nominees participated.

One of the DRUCC members Maheswari Vaiyapuri of Tiruchi made a fervent plea to the railway authorities to take steps to operate a new day-time express train from Tiruchi to Bengaluru or a train via Tiruchi.

She said the lone train touching Bengaluru from Mayiladuthurai was being operated via Tiruchi in the night. There was a need for operation of another train to Bengaluru in the day-time since it would help many who were unable to proceed in the night train, she added.

Another member A. Giri of Kumbakonam said diversion of the Mannai Express via Tiruvarur, Peralam and Mayiladuthurai would deprive passengers of Thanjavur, Papanasam and Kumbakonam of this train. This train had high level of passenger patronage in these stations.

He appealed to the divisional railway authorities to operate this train as Chennai Egmore – Mannargudi / Thanjavur Link express without affecting passenger of both areas. He also requested the railway authorities to operate all trains in the Tiruchi – Mayiladuthurai section.

V. R. Dhanaseelane from Karaikal pressed for laying a railway line from Karaikal to Peralam which was in existence up to 1985 and removed subsequently.

S. Selvaraj pleaded for a separate coach for persons with disabilities in the Chennai-bound Rockfort express.

Presiding over the meeting, Divisional Railway Manager Uday Kumar Reddy and chairman of the DRUCC highlighted the performance of the division.
