Road safety corners inaugurated

Nineteen Road Safety Corners have been opened at showrooms of two-wheelers in Tiruchi, Collector K.Rajamani said here on Monday.

Inaugurating a safety corner at M.A. Honda showroom on Thennur Road in the city, Mr. Rajamani said the initiative was aimed at sensitising buyers of new vehicles to road safety and traffic rules. The corners were being opened on instructions from the Road Safety Commissioner. Audio-visual aids and pamphlets on road safety were being distributed to the showrooms by the Regional Transport Authority.

He suggested screening of short films on road safety at places of public congregation such as bus stands and theatres

“As many as 21,341 two-wheeler and pillion riders have died in road accidents in the State between January and October this year. The State government is taking various measures to bring down accidents. The move to make possession of driving licence in original mandatory is a measure aimed at driving home the responsibility of motorists to adhere to safety measures,” he said urging two-wheeler and pillion riders to wear helmets.

N.Ravichandran, Corporation Commissioner, and other officials were present.
