Race Course bicycle track in Trichy established at Rs 1.4 crore in ruins

Established at a cost of Rs 1.4 crore, the 1.3 km twin-track for bicycle and walkers at Race Course is in ruins within a year after its commissioning. The track has been found damaged and along a few stretches, it has also caved in. This reflects in the poor design and inferior quality of work, say residents , As Reported By TOI

According to the Newspaper,Further, unchecked mushrooming of weeds and shrubs in the inner circle has made it almost unfit for use.The bicycle track at Race Course is perhaps first such facility in the city developed after getting funding from the State Planning Commission. However, it is unused now due to its faulty design."Electric poles are right on the middle of the track at few places, which makes the bicycle track completely pointless," says a student of EVR Periyar College R Shankar. The paver blocks damaged in a few stretches reflect in the poor quality of work."Let alone cycling, these tracks are even not fit for evening walks due to the overgrown bushes in the inner circle," says another regular visitor to Anna stadium D Rajendran, who used the track for walking a few months ago.Calling for a detailed probe in to the quality of work, G Surendran, a retired Thasildar at Kajah Malai said "It was the right place for a bicycle track, considering colleges are in close vicinity and it is a prime residential locality.
