Infracsturture boost for TN with Trichy-Chindrambram National Highway and Ring road by centre

Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday announced a huge basket of infrastructure projects for Tamil Nadu. The elevated corridor projects sanctioned include Tambaram to Chengalpattu project at a cost of 22,250 crore, Poonamallee to Maduravoyal at a cost of 21,500 crore and Chen-nai to Nellore costing 7I,000 crore to decongest Chennai traffic. The minister said the work on the elevated corridor projects would start immediately once the detailed project report is submitted. Gadkari said that four new projects have been sanctioned by his ministry for Tamil Nadu.

These include the Tiruchy-Chidambaram National Highway at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, Villupuram Nagapattinam (6,000 crore), Chennai-TADA (2500 crore). The Ministry has also cleared a project from 355 km highway project yelakoil to Erode from Nagapattinam to as well Tuticorin via Ram-Nitin Gadkari, Union anathapuram and 71km Transport Minister highway project from Velakoil to Erode as well as several projects link-ing Madurai with Natham and Theni under the Bharatmala Phase-I Project. A total of 655km worth of projects have been sanctioned under this project.

He said that his ministry also plans to construct ring roads in Madurai, Tiruchy and Salem and 50 per cent of the cost of land acquisition will be borne by the Surface Transport ministry. He also said his ministry will sanction 22,000 crore for laying new national high-ways. A total of 1,300 km of State highways will be converted to national highways. The State government has given proposals to develop international standard bus ports at Madurai, Coimbatore and Salem and a decision on it will be taken up soon. The government will also build two logistics park at Nemelli and Mappedu.
