Research chair launched in Sastra University

The Ramanujan IT City - SASTRA Srinivasa Ramanujan research chair at SASTRA University was inaugurated here on Tuesday by executive director and CEO of Ramanujan IT City and regional head of Tata Realty & Infrastructure Limited (TRIL), C Velan.
He highlighted the need for perpetuating the works of Ramanujan through research, education and training and there is a need to celebrate his spirit amongst the youthful student and intellectual faculty c
"Legendary mathematics researcher Srinivasa Ramanujan is a natural and inspirational synergy between Ramanujan IT City of TRIL and SASTRA University," Velan said.
This research chair provides financial support to undertake PhD work, host international visiting scholars, organise conference and seminars and also create infrastructure.
Velan also stressed on the need for academic institutions to perpetuate the works of Ramanujan and his contribution to the world of mathematics which has wide contemporary applications in multiple domains. Welcoming the gathering, S Vaidhyasubramaniam, dean - planning and development retraced the establishment of the first research chair by department of science and technology between 2004-09 resulting in four PhDs and 20 publications in reputed international journals.
The renewal of the chair by TRIL is a positively reinforcing move to further the contributions of Ramanujan in the area of number theory and discrete mathematics, said research chair professor V Ramaswamy.
