New international postal service launched

The Department of Posts has introduced a new service, International Tracked Packet Service, covering countries such as Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

Under the service, packets which weigh up to two kg can be booked at any post office and they will be processed separately. The tariff for the service ranges between Rs. 310 -Rs. 330 for the first 100 grams and Rs. 25-Rs. 45 for additional 100 grams or part thereby, depending on the country to which the packet is sent. Contractual customers are eligible for discounts based on the volume of business.

The service will be available in all the 24 head post offices and 652 sub post offices under Central Postal Region in Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvarur districts and Karaikal, J.T.Venkateswarlu, Postmaster General, Central Region, TN Circle, said in a press release.
