NEET coaching centres across State soon

Special coaching centres will be set up to enable students face competitive exams in the light of NEET issue in the State, said Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan here on Friday.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event here, he said the government had proposed to open 412 coaching centres to enable students train for NEET. “The teaching quality in schools will be improved and students will be coached to the extent that there will be no more deaths owing to NEET.”

Special resource persons would be brought in from Rajasthan, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh during the weekend to coach students through videoconferencing. This would enable students access sessions over Skype.

Smart classrooms would be set up at a cost of ₹ 60 crore in schools across the State. Further, classrooms from IX to XII would be upgraded with computers.

Learning deficiency

According to the Minister, 10% of students had been identified to have learning deficiency in schools. Such students would be given learning interventions. Further, 3,336 post-graduate teachers and 748 mathematics teachers would be appointed to fill in the gap in teaching staff.

Shortage of staff would be remedied and new teachers would be appointed in remote schools affected by teacher deficit, the Minister said.

Ad hoc teachers would be appointed on a salary of ₹7,500 in schools with teaching faculty shortage .
