St Joseph's, TNIE join hands for Kalam anniv

THURSDAY will mark the second death anniversary o former indian President, A P J Abdul Kalam. To mark the day, he Missile Man 's alma mater,it Joseph's College has lined up I host of programmes in associaation with The New Indian Express Group (TNIE). Over 300 students of the college and vol-unteer groups would take part xi a rally to spread Kalam's deals. Recalling his memories of Calam, S John Britto, former principal of SJC, said, "Kalam graduated in 1954 in BSc Physics. It was a two-year course then and Kalam was one of the bright students. Even after beccoming the President of India, Kalam used to visit the college whenever he was in Tiruchy and inspired students with his speeches." F Selvakumaran, associate rofessor and head of the Tamil
department in the college, said Kalam made his last visit to SJC in 2014 for a conference organ-ised by the Computer Science department "The security protocol for a VIP was not followed at the time of the conference as Kalam was seen relishing the back-to-col-lege moment. He walked straight towards a group of stu-dents for an interaction and en-joyed the flowers in bloom near the principal's office," he said. To highlight Kalam's many contributions, SJC and TNIE will organise a rally at 10 am. It will be inaugurated by S Kumaragtum, Principal District Judge of Tiruchy and will pass through College Road, Main-guard Gate, WB Road, Sophy's Corner and St Lourdes Church before concluding at the college. A meeting would be held in college ground where people would speak about Kalam. A seven-minute skit would be act-ed out by students.
