“Learn sports to be fit”

R. Geethanjali Rathinamala, Senior Regional Manager of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, on Monday asked the people irrespective of age groups and gender to learn at least a sport so as to keep themselves physically and mentally fit.

Speaking at the valedictory of second State-level junior tennis tournament organised by Vasanth Tennis Academy, Tiruchi, here, she said though awareness of health had gone up among the people, only a section of them were taking part in sports and physical exercises.

More and more people should come forward to participate in sport activities. It would make them fresh all through the day and keep them fit always.

Later, she distributed prized to the winners.

C. Punniyamoorthy, District Sports Officer, Vasanth, tennis coach, participated.

In the under-16 category, R. Navin of Musiri defeated Surya of Perambalur in the final. Laxmi Prabha of Tiruchi defeated Susmitha of Karur in the under-16 girls category.

In the under-14 category, Surya of Perambalur emerged victorious by defeating R. Navin of Musiri. While Yasvanth of Musiri was the winner in under 12 category, Sushmitha of Karur finished with runners-up. Bala Dharunesh of Musiri was the winner in under-10 category, Thirumurugan of Karur came up second. While Arjith of Thanjavur won the under-8 category, R. Sachin of Musiri finished with second position.
