Devotees pull newly decorated temple car

After several years, a car festival was held at the Sri Visalakshi Udanurai Gneelivaneswarar Temple, known as ‘Melachidambaram,’ at Tiruppainjeeli near Tiruchi on Wednesday.

A large number of devotees pulled the newly decorated temple car carrying the idol of Sri Visalakshi Amman all along the four car streets around the temple for over two hours.

The car festival in connection with Aadi Pooram celebrations started off with the ‘Vigneshwarar’ pooja on July 17 and ‘Dwajarohanam on July 18.

After performing poojas and other rituals, the idol of Sri Visalakshi Amman was placed in the temple car which was pulled by devotees at around 3 p.m.

The car returned to its base later.

The celebrations conclude on July 28.
