Tiruchy district to have trade centre

Collector K. Rajamani on Wednesday said five acres of land would be identified soon for setting up a trade centre in Tiruchi.

Inaugurating a two-day State-level seminar on “Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Women and Youth”, organised by the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu and the Department of Women’s Studies of Bhrathidasan university, Mr. Rajamani said he had received representations from trade bodies and industrial forumsfor such a centre.

At least five acres of land would be required for the prurpose, and they could come from either NGOs or the government. And he would make all efforts to transform the dream into a reality.

Similarly, it had been brought to his knowledge that about 1,000 acres of land at SIPCOT complex in Manapparai had not been utilised for a long time. He would soon convene a meeting of all stakeholders to utilise the available resources at SIPCOT site, Mr. Rajamani added.

He further said that Tiruchi was well-connected by road, rail and air. The city and neighbouring areas had excellent infrastructure to make it a thriving industrial belt. However, the available opportunities were not fully utilised.

C. Anandaramakrishnan, Director, Indian Institute of Food Processing and Technology, Thanjavur, Gopinath Ganapathy, Syndicate Member, N. Manimekalai, Head, Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University and others spoke.

Earlier, Mr. Rajamani presented the ‘Best Women Entrepreneur’ award to eight businesswomen.
