On the road to regulating buses

In an effort to ease congestion on the West Boulevard Road especially near the Main Guard Gate, the City Police have installed barricades upto certain stretches to regulate movement of town buses.

The barricades have been placed by the Traffic Police Wing which has also installed boards indicating where the buses proceeding to different places within the city should halt upon crossing the Main Guard Gate signal.

The iron structures have been kept in rows with an opening created after a certain spot for the buses to come out after taking in passengers at the designated stops near Teppakulam on the busy thoroughfare which has a median.

The barricades have been kept in such a manner to enable other vehicles to go straight after crossing the Main Guard gate signal without getting held up on the busy thoroughfare near that spot.

Dotted with commercial establishments on either sides, the West Boulevard Road is one of the busy roads in the city, often witness to traffic hold-ups and jamming of vehicles especially near the Main Guard gate up to Singarathope.

Traffic police officials said the barricades were installed recently to regulate movement of city buses bound for Central Bus Stand and other areas and to ease congestion especially upto Singarathope.

Separate halt boards have been kept at three spots indicating the places where buses bound for central bus stand, those proceeding to Thillai Nagar and Woraiyur and Thuvakudi should halt after passing the Main Guard gate signal.

The barricades have been placed up to Singarathope along one portion of the road to enable buses to halt even while leaving space for other vehicles to proceed, said the officials.

A few months ago, the Traffic Police had installed barricades at the busy Chinthamani area near the Chathram bus stand to ease congestion.
