Online booking of retiring rooms enabled at Srirangam

At Kumbakonam and Srirangam railway stations

Travellers planning to stay in retiring rooms at Kumbakonam and Srirangam railway stations could now book their accommodation online well in advance.

The new facility for making online reservation for short stay in the retiring rooms at these two important stations falling under the Tiruchi Railway Division limits has been put in place from Monday.

The two heritage temple towns attract thousands of visitors throughout the year from across the country.

Srirangam and Kumbakonam are two more railway stations to have been brought under the scope of online reservation of retiring rooms. Railway sources said Srirangam and Kumbakonam railway stations had been added keeping in mind the religious importance of these two towns and the huge movement of devotees round the year.

The facility has been introduced for Srirangam and Kumbakonam stations from Monday to enable travellers with valid PNR (passenger name record) and confirmed tickets to make their accommodation online well in advance, the official said.

Online booking of retiring rooms could be made through the website of IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited), a Government of India Enterprise, the official said.

The retiring room at Kumbakonam station has both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned single and double bed rooms besides a family room which can accommodate four persons.

Srirangam retiring room has non air-conditioned double bed rooms and a non-air-conditioned dormitory with five beds. Railway sources say the tariff in the retiring rooms were cheaper.

Kumbakonam railway station falls under the ‘A’ category, while Srirangam has been classified under the ‘D’ category station.

Online booking of retiring rooms is already available in over 450 railway stations across the country. Some of railway stations in Tamil Nadu include Tiruchi, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Madurai, Rameswaram, Karur, Erode, Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore and Coimbatore.
