Modernised soap factory to begin production soonMore-in Work on construction of a soap factory at Samayapuram by the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has been completed. The unit will start production in course of time to cater to the growing demand of the people. What makes the unit different from other conventional units is that the Samayapuram unit would be a fully auotomated wing. The erection of machinery is being done and would be completed soon. The construction of the factory was executed on an area of about 6,000 square feet through the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at an estimate of Rs.

2.69 crore. The importance of the factory can be gauged from the fact that it was sanctioned under the special announcement under Rule 110 of the State Assembly. The unit would produce five tonnes of soap per day. To start with, the factory would have only one shift per day, an official source told The Hindu over telephone on Wednesday. The factory has been designed in such a manner that it would have three major units – for processing raw material, solidification, and packaging unit. The building has been designed in such a manner with an elevation at its back so that the machinery would be erected without any hitch.
