Law school begins search for faculty
R. Sudhakar, Judge, Madras High Court, said that the
Tamil Nadu National Law School here had chalked out a plan of action to
make it a leading law school in the country.
Flanked
by T.S. Sivagnanam, Judge of Madras High Court, and V. Arun Roy,
Vice-Chancellor-in-charge, Mr. Sudhakar, who is the Executive Council
member of law school, told presspersons here on Saturday that the
process of appointing qualified faculty members for the law school had
been initiated as per the best practices being followed in some leading
law schools in the country. Due to the increase in the number of law
universities in the country, there was a dearth of faculty members.
Other
universities had been facing similar issues. However, sincere efforts
were made to identify suitable faculty members for future requirements.
The
number of students of the law school had gone up to 303 with the
enrolment of 89 candidates, who had cleared the Common Law Admission
Test. Of the total students, 120 were girls. Sufficient faculty members
were available for various disciplines for immediate requirements.
Elaborating
the decisions taken at the Executive Council of the law school on
Saturday, Mr. Sudhakar said the council would take more steps to improve
the standards in all areas in future with the guidance of the Chief
Justice of the Madras High Court, who was the Chancellor of the law
school, and the support of the State government
