NIT-T to introduce flexibility in engineering courses

Close on the heels of an academic conclave convened a couple of months ago, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, has decided to introduce flexibility in engineering courses with a view to promoting creativity among students in their field of interests.
“In several cases, students join engineering courses partly due to pressure from parents.
“And, the stream they choose may not interest them when the academic session is at its peak,” said R. Sundarrajan, Director of NIT-T, explaining the grounds that led to the decision on effecting flexibility in its courses.
As per the proposal, students joining a course could choose elective subjects. For instance, students of electronics or mechanical engineering could choose “sound engineering” or “architecture” or “music”, he told press
persons here recently. The move, he said, would help promote the creativity among students, thereby using it for their academic benefit he said.
The certificates would reflect the performance of the students in the elective subjects.
Dr. Sundarrajan said the Architecture Council of India had accorded its accreditation to the Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture course of the NIT-T.
