Trichy to have Plug-Play office for IT Industry

Tamil Nadu clocked Rs 75,000 crore IT&ITeS sector exports in the fiscal 2014-15. Exports from the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI)-registered units contributed Rs 32,000 crore to this, up 14 per cent from the previous year's Rs 28,000 crore, STPI sources said.

In a boost to start-up ecosystem in the state, the STPI was planning to set up four new incubation centres in the state, according to the source. IT&ITeS units located in STPI and special economic zones are the major contributors to exports.

At a conference on IT outsourcing and offshoring opportunities in the state, organised by the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce recently here, Sanjay Tyagi director of STPI Chennai, said IT exports from the state were expected to grow around 10 per cent this year.

Plans were afoot to set up plug-and-play centres in Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy. The state government has in-principle approved land for the project, which is expected to come up in 60,000 sft area in these cities, he said.

Each facility is expected to come up with an investment of Rs 30 crore, and would be be ready in three years. At present, STPI has incubation centre in Chennai with a capacity of 200 seats.

The Union government is expected to expand the space offered to the IT industry, and is looking at promoting start ups, according to him.
