Development work at healthcare centres

Image result for National Urban Health MissionUnder the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), the city corporation will carry out development work at healthcare centres across the city at an estimated cost of Rs 4.16 crore. 

NUHM aims to improve the healthcare service provided to the urban poor and other disadvantaged sections and provide quality healthcare through a revamped public healthcare system. The process would involve the participation of the community and urban local bodies. 

Primary health centres (PHCs) will come up at a cost of Rs 42 lakh each in Edamalaipatti, Ramalinga Nagar south and Woraiyur. At the same time, Kaatur and Thiruverambur PHCs will soon be handed over to the corporation from the existing panchayats, and developmental work will be carried at these centres at a cost of Rs 10 lakh each. Eight urban health posts (UHPs) will get a facelift at a cost of Rs 10 lakh each and another six UHPs would be upgraded at a cost Rs 10 lakh each. 
The civic body will seek tender for carrying out several other works, including the renovation of maternity hospital and primary health centres, in various corporation wards at a cost of Rs 3.05 crore. An amount of Rs 1.50 crore will be provided under NUHM, while the rest of the cost will be met from the corporation general fund. 

The corporation will also call tenders for work to construct UHPs at a cost of Rs 1.56 crore. Funds worth Rs 1.26 crore will be provided under NULM for the purpose whereas the rest will be taken from the corporation general fund. 

Many of the healthcare centres that are not properly maintained will get a facelift and the issue of manpower shortage in the health centres in the city will also be addressed, corporation officials said.
