IIM-Trichy records 100% placement, average salary up

Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchirappalli (IIM-T) on Tuesday said it has placed all the 103 students who registered for final placements, with marginally higher average salaries than last year.

The institute said that out of the total 106 students belonging to the batch of 2013-15, 103 registered for placements and all were placed. In all, 103 recruiters visited the campus as against 76 companies last year. And, 106 offers were made -- (three students got multiple offers) -- compared to 86 offers last year.

Though the highest salary offered this year -- Rs 19.50 lakhs - was only marginally higher from Rs 19.25 lakh offered last year, the institute said that the number of offers at the higher band exceeded last year's numbers. At the lower end, the minimum salary package witnessed a 20% increase from last year and ended at Rs 7.5 lakh. The median annual compensation levels continued to be around Rs 11 lakh.

"Our biggest efforts this time was to match students' interests with the recruiters and job profiles and we have been able to satisfy majority of our students," Abhishek Totawar, chairperson, placement & external relations at IIM-T told TOI.

While past recruiters like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Berger Paints, Dabur, Decathlon, HCL, ICICI Bank, KPMG and Mahindra returned to the campus to make offers, 26 first-time recruiters visited the campus during the placement season and made 56 job offers. Among the new companies include ANZ, Aspire IT Systems, BIG FM (Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd), CCD Beverages, CRISIL, Dun & Bradstreet, Housing.com, ICICI Prudential, Indus Valley Partners, Murugappa Group and Muthoot Home Fin India among others. Housing.com, Greenway Appliances, IQR Analytics and Aryaka Networks were startups that recruited from IIM-T this year.

Domain-wise, IT/ITeS and analytics lead the pack with 30% share of the offers unseating the traditional Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector which was pushed to the second category, with 28% of the job offers. Profile wise, largest number of roles were offered in the sales and marketing profiles. As per the Institute, companies like Mahindra and ICICI Prudential recruited students for their leadership programs. Institute officials said it was interesting to see equity research firms visit the campus.

As per IIM-T, three students opted out of the campus placement process this year. One of the students, who was on a sabbatical, returned to the previous employer, while the second joined family business, and the third decided to seek opportunities through personal network. The placement season also saw 18 students obtaining pre-placement job offers (PPO's) on the strength of their performance in the summer internships.
