IIM- Trichy celebrates fourth Foundation Day

Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Tiruchirappalli celebrated its fourth Foundation Day on Sunday with a grand function attended by noted dignitaries from varied fields. Appreciating the progress made by the management at IIM-T during the past four years, director Prafulla Agnihotri lauded the achievements made by the students. "The new IIM, with the maximum number of permanent faculty, was ranked among the top 20 B-schools in India," he said.

Dignitaries like Y V Kumar, chief of marketing, Rane Valve Engines Ltd, Mr Indranil Chakravarty, commercial director, Bausch & Lomb and Dr Nalin Singhal, chairman and managing director, Central Electronics Ltd participated in the function.

The audience was then treated to a discussion on the theme 'Emerging paradigms in marketing'. Indranil Chakravarty gave a brief overview of the social media and its importance in business. He went on to explain the changing buying patterns of consumers. He concluded with a real-life case study as to how social media had eased up the process of transition for people from spectacles to contact lenses.

Y V Kumar gave a comprehensive overview of the auto components sector. He touched upon the importance of relationship and transactional marketing in doing business.

Dr Nalin Singhal describes the stages of evolution of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) and its foray into tourism and e-commerce.
