IIM to hike fees from next year

After IIM Ahmedabad announced a fee hike for its post graduate courses from the coming academic year, other Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are also planning to increase their fee for the PG courses. As per the buzz, institutes like IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and IIM Indore are likely to increase the fee for PG courses. IIM Ahmedabad has announced a fee hike of 11.44% for the 2015-17 batch in its postgraduate programmes in management and PG food and agribusiness management. Meanwhile, newer IIMs like IIM Rohtak, IIM Udaipur and IIM Trichy said that they would take a decision on fee hike after meeting the board of governors.
The Director of IIM Trichy, Prafulla Agnohotri said, "We still have four months to go since the decision on fee revision is taken in the board meeting held in March. Each IIM has its cost structure, and the decision depends on that. IIM Trichy has an additional cost of travel due to its location. At this stage, we have not decided anything." The Director of IIM Rohtak, P Rameshan said, "The inflation rate has increased by 30%, and faculty salaries have also increased." The Director of IIM Udaipur, Janat Shah said, "We will have a meeting with officials and decide on the fee hike in January 2015. Since from the inception, we have not increased the fee."
The Director of IIM Indore, Rishikesha T Krishnan said, "Next year we are not increasing fees. There has to be a certain balance between fees and affordability. We do not believe in creating barriers for students who may have some income limitations. I think we have reached the threshold. We have to find other ways of controlling costs," as quoted by a website. The Director of IIM Calcutta, Saibal Chattopadhyay said that the institute has no plans to increase the fees. The institute had already increased the fees in the past.
