Highways department to widen a stretch of K.K.Nagar Road
The State Highways Department has begun preliminary
work to draw up a plan to widen a stretch of the K.K.Nagar Main Road
(also known as SIMCO Meter Road) in the city.
On Tuesday, officials conducted preliminary works including soil tests for drawing up a project report.
Sources
in the Department indicated that the initially the road stretch from
the K.K.Nagar Road Arch to Sabari Mills, a distance of about 1.5 km,
will be widened.
The road stretch beyond Sabari Mills will be widened later, the sources added.
The
department, about a couple of years back, removed encroachments on the
entire K.K.Nagar Main Road during which several buildings were
demolished.
The move raised hopes among residents that the road would be widened to cater to the increasing volume of traffic on the road.
The
eviction drive had cleared big space on either sides of the road, which
is now being used for vehicles to be parked on the roadsides.
There have been demands that the road be widened up to the K.K. Nagar Bus Stand.
There
was also a proposal to widen the road and connect it to the Pudukottai
Highway. However, the proposal is yet to be firmed upSource
