Serviced apartments catching up in rock city
With the need for homely and quality accommodation for
short stays on the rise, the concept of serviced apartments is catching
up in the city.
A few such properties have come up in
the city in the past couple of years, including at
Srirangam/Thiruvanaikovil, a major tourist destination in the region.
The
concept has met with encouraging response from tourists, corporates,
and even city-based families seeking temporary accommodation for guests
and relatives for special occasion, say those running the properties.
The tariff ranges from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 3,500 plus taxes depending on the size of the accommodation and the number of guests.
Serviced
apartments are furnished apartments complete with kitchen along with
induction cookers, utensils, microwave, and refrigerators besides living
rooms with television and furniture, and air-conditioned bedrooms.
Comfort and convenience
Car
parking, back-up generators, and rest rooms for drivers are the other
facilities available. They offer the best of both hotels and homes by
way of comfort and convenience at competitive tariff, depending on the
size of the apartment and the number of occupants.
They
are available in different sizes, single/double occupancy, and two and
three BHK apartments, meeting the requirements of various types of
guests. Catering, laundry, and travel desk services are available for
those who seek such facilities.
Online bookings
“The
concept which has been popular in Chennai is catching up here too,
especially among people who seek homely accommodation for short stays.
We have got an encouraging response so far from visitors and families
even within the city. More and more are people who prefer such stay as
the concept spreads through word of mouth. At the same time, we are
getting online bookings from tourists,” said S. Shenbagapandian who
manages Rockfort Residency, which offers a dozen serviced apartments at
Thiruvanaikovil.
The serviced apartments have a
tie-up with catering agencies, home food suppliers, or even their own
restaurant such as the Chola Apartment, which offers four two-BHK
serviced apartments and five double occupancy rooms on the Collector’s
Office Road.
“Foreign tourists, corporates/private
companies, and families are among our guests. The occupancy has been
good since we opened,” said M. Ashok, manager of the apartment.
Apart from tourists and visitors to the city who use the apartments for
short stays, there have been guests who seek the accommodation for
extended periods of a month or two. For such customers, the apartments
offer discounts in tariff.
