Malindo Air to connect Trichy with Kuala Lumpur

Malindo Air, a Malaysia-Indonesia joint venture airline, is all set to fly daily from Kuala Lumpur to Trichy from January 2. With this proposed service, Trichy would become the second Indian gateway for Malindo Air connecting the Malaysian capital.

The Kuala Lumpur-based airline recently received permission from the aviation authorities in India to commence operations. The airline has announced that it would now launch its first service to Delhi on December 30, 2013, followed by Trichy on January 2, 2014 and to Mumbai on 15 February.

Interestingly, Chennai at present operates 33 services a week - AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines twice daily and Air India Express five flights a week - to Kuala Lumpur. After the introduction of Malindo Air's daily flight, Trichy too would be operating the equivalent of 33 services a week - three daily flights from AirAsia, a daily service from Malindo Air and the Air India Express' five-services-a-week that includes Trichy (KL-Chennai-Trichy).

However, the Trichy international airport will have two distinct advantages as the number of seats available on the Kuala Lumpur - Trichy sector would be a total of 690 as against Chennai - Kuala Lumpur's availability of 660.
