Bharathidasan University convocation on Nov 25

The 30th convocation of Bharathidasan University is slated to be held on November 25, according to a statement issued by the university. This will be the second such event in 2013 alone as the 29{+t}{+h} convocation, which was scheduled to have been held in 2012 was postponed to March this year. The 30{+t}{+h} convocation is likely to take place without the presence of a vice-chancellor who is yet to be elected.

Former registrar S Aruchamy, who was shunted out on the plea that he had attained 58 years of age and posted as head in the geography department, told TOI that the likelihood of a new VC being appointed before the convocation, was bright.

This year's convocation will be held under the leadership of chancellor and Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah and Madras High Court judge, justice S Nagamuthu will be the chief guest. Higher education minister P Palaniappan would also be present.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Federation of Universities Faculty Associations has in a press release has called for transparency and openness in the appointment of vice-chancellors in universities. Its convener S Krishnaswamy said, "The open selection process will go a long way in fostering excellence in universities which is part of the Vision 2023 of the chief minister of Tamil Nadu."
