Trichy Corporation Budget 2013-14 proposals


At a time when Trichy corporation is slammed by the opposition for not implementing several planned projects, its 2013-14 budget proposes a slew of new ones that include some interesting projects like a science park, a water theme park and a heritage centrein the corporation premises.

The science park with a lot of interesting features for the benefit of the students as well as the public has been proposed to will come up on a 2.65-acre land at Thennur Annanagar corporation (ward no: 50) at a cost of Rs 3 crore. It will have floriculture farms, artificial springs, sports infrastucture, toy train, a canteen. However, the corporation plans to secure funds from the state government.

In an effort to fulfil the long-pending requirement of an entertainment spot in Trichy, the corporation has proposed water theme park will come up on a 15-acre land in Panjappur. No estimate has been made for this project. Panjappur was earlier considered for setting up an integrated bus stand for Trichy. But now, the corporation has chosen the place to set up the theme park in the area. While Trichities have no such entertainment spot to spend their weekends.

The proposed theme park would address the long-pending demand for an entertainment spot.

Likewise, another proposed project that draws the attention of many people is in Trichy corporation campus.

The heritage centre with an exhibition hall The corporation has said that it would set up a heritage centre that would chronicle the evolution of the city., with its the olden day glory, modern development and its heritage importance.

It is aimed at providing valuable information to tourists from foreign countries as well as other states and the public from Trichy. However, there was no estimate has been made for this grand project too.

The corporation proposes to clear the garbage dumped on five acres in the Ariyamangalam composite yard at a cost of Rs 8.02 crore. Currently, the garbage collected from in and around city is being dumped on a 40 acre composite yard in Ariyamangalam. However, it was heaped up to 20 to 25 feet.

As it was difficult to dump the wastes further, as the piles have mounted, the civic body is planning to clear up garbage from a portion of the yard. on five acre lands in the north-eastern side of the composite yard.

Besides the corporation-funded schemes, a few projects will be implemented under the Integrated Urban Development Scheme (IUDS). These projects include new roads for 32.85 km at Rs 15.10 crore, cement and concrete roads for 5.53 km at Rs 2.94 crore. and rain water drainage for 63.54 croreat Rs 21.65 crore. The corporation also said that they have sent a proposal to the government to take up under ground drainage works under the IUDS at an estimated cost of Rs 129.21 crore.

The existing projects like solid waste management, construction of commercial complexes, procurement of more water tankers, and construction of public toilets, setting up of parks and sign boards would get a boost in 2013-14.

It may be recalled that a water project commenced in 2007 Rs 221.42 crore is yet to come to fruition. However, the corporation had recently assured that it would become operational by the end of March 2013.
