IIM-T's first convocation on March 30
Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchirapalli (IIM-T) has decided to conduct its first convocation ceremony on March 30, 2013.
Two
years back, after the then Human Resource Development Minister Kapil
Sibal laid the foundation stone at the site identified for permanent
campus along the Tiruchi-Pudukottai National Highway, the IIM-T started
functioning temporarily from the premises of the National Institute of
Technology - Tiruchi.
The first batch students have
now completed their degrees in the NIT-T campus. Yet, the 83 students
will still carry with them an attachment to the permanent campus. The
IIM-T has proposed to conduct the maiden convocation there.
According
to official sources, a temporary convocation hall will be created with
air-conditioning and other attractive features at the permanent campus
adjacent to Bharathidasan University for the ceremony. The campus is now
fenced and the IIM-T has proceeded with the plan for construction of
buildings for academic blocks and residential quarters by approving
architectural design.
The IIM-T
website:www.iimtrichy.ac.in, depicts a three-dimensional walkthrough
video spanning over three minutes detailing the aesthetic plan for the
new campus. The first batch students enrolled into two-year full-time
Postgraduate Programme in 2011-12 are currently undergoing placement.
Last
year, the IIM-T achieved the distinction of being the first among newly
started ones in the country to succeed in placing students in
international companies. In all, 40 companies, including FMCG (Fast
Moving Consumer Goods) majors, recruited the students for internships in
various domains. The Institute was also the first among the new ones to
start Fellow Programme in Management.
Last year, the
IIM-T launched Postgraduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) at
its Chennai Centre to groom working executives who aspire to move into
senior leadership roles. IIM-T director Prafulla Agnihotri is hopeful of
the Institute getting ranked among the first five business schools in
the country within the next five years.
