IIM-Trichy opens its centre in Chennai
The Chennai centre of the Indian Institute of
Management (IIM), Trichy was inaugurated on Wednesday. The centre at
Ekkattuthangal, spread over 4,000 sq ft, has classrooms, a computer lab,
wi-fi connectivity, a conference room and a library.
According
to officials, the Chennai campus will look at admitting executives with
minimum three years work experience and a good academic background.
The
flagship programme of the institute is specifically designed to enable
working executives who aspire to equip themselves with a formal
management education. The course will start in August and classes will
be held on weekends and in the evenings so that they do not overlap with
candidate’s work hours.
Candidates will also have
the option of completing the course within five years, if they have to
take long breaks during the original schedule for work-related reasons.
The
intake for the first batch is estimated at 45, with a fee of Rs. 10
lakh payable in nine instalments. The centre will also serve as a
platform to conduct placement-related activities for its programme
offered in Trichy, said an official. Currently, IIM-Lucknow is offering
such a programme from its Noida centre. IIM Trichy decided to offer the
programme in Chennai, based on feedback from the industry, officials
said, because the city has a number of companies in various sectors.
The
institute was the eleventh IIM to be set up in the country. and started
functioning a year ago. IIM-Trichy has 15 permanent faculty members
and one permanent international faculty member.
The
move by the institution to set up a centre in the city comes close on
the heels of IIM-Kozhikode starting a new campus in Cochin, also with
working executives in mind.
