Round-the-clock emergency control room set up in Tiruchi
The Tiruchi district administration has set up an emergency control room
at the collectorate to help the people during the north east monsoon
period. The cell would function round the clock under the PA (general)
to the Collector. The people could contact the toll free number 1077 for
providing information on rainfall and floods.
Collector Jayashree Muralidharan convened a meeting to discuss the
precautionary steps to be taken during the monsoon season on Thursday.
She urged the revenue, PWD and development department officials to
inspect all the water sources within their jurisdictional limits and
take necessary steps to prevent any breach.
The cyclone relief centres and the government buildings should be
renovated so that affected people could be shifted there without delay.
The officials should also inspect private buildings, marriage halls,
community centres and schools, and ensure proper facilities.
Divisional-level and block-level disaster management coordination
committee meetings should be conducted. Corporation officials, RDOs,
tahsildars, and BDOs should inspect the low-lying areas.
Officials of the civil supplies department should ensure availability of
adequate stock of essential commodities at all fair price shops and
should keep the vehicles in good condition for transporting them.
Officials of the department of revenue and development, police, and
corporation officials should setup public address system in their
vehicles to issue warning to the people in case of floods. Adequate
stock of medicines should be kept ready at the government hospitals,
primary health centres and veterinary hospitals. Emergency vehicles and
generators should be maintained properly.
