Cyan partners get go-ahead for 500 unit pilot in Trichy

Electric meter control company Cyan Holding has partnership deals with the two companies that have passed the test for a huge contract in India, it said today.
The Cambridge-based firm said that these partners, which are using Cyan’s wireless control technology, have already completed site surveys and will go ahead with the 500 unit pilot installations this month at Trichy (Tiruchchirappalli) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
One of the partners has already installed and showed the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) that a number of its meters work, Cyan added.
A tender for 1.5 million units for the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) is the first part of a programme to replace 18 million meters in Tamil Nadu.
Two unsuccessful participants have been allowed to resubmit meters for re-testing, which will run in parallel with the pilot installations. Both are these are also Cyan partners.
“We are pleased that the two meter manufacturers who passed the CPRI tests first time were both Cyan partners and that two further Cyan partners have told us that they will submit to CPRI for retesting and will install pilots in parallel,” said Cyan’s executive chairman John Cronin.
Due to the urgent demand to fit meters in southern Indian state, TNEB will kick off negotiations for awarding bids in September with a view to issuing orders around October/November.
Both remaining Cyan partners will resubmit units and keep working towards installing pilot meters in Trichy, Cyan said.
Back in June, the company announced that 500 pilot units would have been launched at the start of July and that the CPRI report was expected by the end of June, meaning that the pilots are six weeks behind schedule.
“Whilst it is frustrating that the TNEB tender has experienced a further delay of around six weeks, we remain very confident of our competitive position on this tender,” said Cronin.
However, he believes the recent power outages in India underline the pressing need for these upgrades to the consumer network.
