Site for national law school at Navalur Kuttapattu inspected
Law Minister C. Ve. Shanmugam on Saturday inspected the
site at Navalur Kuttapattu in the city's outskirts where the national
law school is to come up.
The Minister was briefed
by officials accompanying him about the preliminary works that were to
commence with regard to the setting up of the law school which is to
come up in the Srirangam assembly constituency.
Mr.
Shanmugam also heard details regarding the soil test report of the site
where buildings were to be constructed and about other works.
He instructed the officials to take necessary steps to start the works at the earliest.
In
a brief interaction with the media at the site, Mr. Shanmugam said the
law school would come up in a total area of 25 acres with an investment
of Rs.100 crore funded wholly by the State government.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had laid the foundation stone for the law school at a function held in the city in February.
Mr. Shanmugam said the State government had appointed a Special Officer for the law school.
The
Minister was accompanied by School Education Minister N.R. Sivapathi,
Secretary, Law Department G. Jayachandran, Collector Jayashree
Muralidharan, MP P. Kumar, Special Officer of Law School N. Manohar,
MLAs M. Paranjothi, R. Manohar and T.P. Poonatchi, Anbil Dharmalingam
College and Research Institute, Dean V. Jayapal and officials.
Later,
in an interaction with the media, Mr.Manohar said the law school would
offer five-year integrated honours course in law adding that the
institution would have specialised infrastructure and experts to handle
classes.
The curriculum would be in the pattern of other national law schools functioning across the country, he said.
