Police recruit school to move to own campus



The permanent police recruit school which is presently functioning within the Tamil Nadu Special Police – I Battalion campus here will move to its own premises at Navalpat in the city's outskirts with land having been allotted for this purpose.

The district administration has earmarked 50 acres of land at Navalpat for housing the police training establishment which has been imparting indoor and outdoor training to Recruit Police Constables recruited through the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.

Facilities such as parade ground, housing quarters, administrative buildings, barracks, conference hall, mess and play ground are proposed to be created in a phased manner in the allotted land. Apart from Tiruchi, permanent Police Recruit Schools are functioning at Coimbatore, Vellore and Perurani near Tuticorin.

Police sources said an administrative building and a barrack would initially be set up. The land has been handed over to the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, a Government of Tamil Nadu undertaking set up with the aim of raising the level of satisfaction in housing for police personnel.

It will be a own campus encompassing all necessary training facilities in a single place, say the sources.

Headed by a Principal in the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police, the Police Recruit School here has been imparting theoretical and practical training over the years to Recruit Police Constables in various areas including firing, arms drill, lathi drill, karate, unarmed combat, bandobust and law.

The duration of the training for the Recruit Police Constables is eight months with one month set apart for practical sessions during which period they are attached to police stations to enable them to know the day-to-day working pattern.

The permanent Police Recruit Schools in the State come under the Director General of Police (Training).
