BIM intends moving to new campus by 2014

Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) intends to move to its own campus along the Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway, about 20 kilometres away from Tiruchi Railway Junction, by 2014.

Earlier this year, the BIM, which has been functioning since its start in 1984 on the premises of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), bought about 16 acres for having a full-fledged campus for its students.

Buildings and other facilities will be created at a cost of over Rs. 50 crore, according to official sources. Finances will be raised and the Institute will simultaneously take initiatives to enhance its revenues.

While the intake capacity – 120 students per annum – will be retained, the Institute will explore avenues for starting need-based short-term programmes.

Executive MBA course

An Executive MBA programme was likely, sources said. Since BIM's relationship with BHEL is touted as its strength, the Institute will continue to maintain the ties by devising tailor-made programmes for BHEL executives, it is learnt.

A School of Excellence of Bharathidasan University, the BIM enjoys autonomy, on the administrative and financial fronts. Its All India admission is based on CAT scores.

Applications

The BIM started issuing applications for its MBA Admissions 2012-2014 at the start of December. Applications are to be issued till January 30, 2012. As the BIM has been ranked in several surveys as being among the top-notch business schools in the country, the decision to have own campus augurs well with the reputation it enjoys, former students opined.

Since the Institute pays substantial amount as rent, utilising it for debt-servicing to repay loans for creating permanent infrastructure does make sound business sense, they felt.

Also, faculties see scope for synergy in the location of the new campus close to the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Management – Tiruchi. Incidentally, the BHEL, which is on a growth spree, will require the area now occupied by the BIM, for its future expansion.
