BHEL to extend quality movement to sub-contractors

The “quality movement” adopted by the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited would be extended to all subcontracting firms through vendor performance monitoring systems and corrective action will be taken based on the regular feedback, said A.V.Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi.

“In the prevailing business environment, quality has taken an important place with respect to performance of equipment supplied to customers. Customers no longer tolerate defects and they look at the performance of the equipment strictly complying with the highest standard,” he said inaugurating the Quality Month observation at the organisation here on Tuesday.

Even a small deviation or slip from the prescribed standards will not be accepted by customers and they would not come back for repeat orders. Referring to the quality of the power plant equipment supplied by some Chinese companies, Mr.Krishnan said that on many occasions customers have cancelled the order placed on Chinese companies and come to BHEL based on the performance standard the equipment supplied by it.

Observing that the quality should be observed at all levels, he said that quality should be maintained right from the product design, material dimension, painting and crafting of the components of a product so that the end product will be error free.

Employees or organisation took a quality pledge on the occasion, rededicating themselves for the effective implementation of total quality management and meeting the expectations of stake holders. The theme of the quality month this year will be, ‘quality through pride in performance.'

During the month, BHEL will organise about 50 training and lecture programmes benefiting more than 3,000 employees using internal and external faculties.

R.Easwaran, Additional General Manager, Quality Control, welcomed the gathering and G.Mathivanan, AGM, Quality Control, proposed a vote of thanks.
